A few days ago,I was chatting with my best friend. He mentioned that he had slept for about 14 hours the previous night. And I casually compared him to Rip Van Winkle, the legendary character who was in deep slumber for 20years.
It was so nostalgic remembering the classics, the characters and the books that we read in our childhood. How can we forget the famous Sydney Carton and Madame Defarge from "The tale of Two cities", D'Artagnan from "The Three Muskateers", Long John Silver from "The Treasure Island", Adventures of TOm Sawyer and his friend Huckleberry Finn,Robinson Crusoe,Silas Marner,Oliver Twist, most of Enid Blyton's and so many more.
Most of our childhood we spent reading them and exchanging books with our friends and neighbours.
These days children hardly read and hardly know about these books. Its just television and computer games and playstations. Even if they are reading its more of Harry Potter and other contemporary books rather than old classics. Its very important that we get the kids to read atleast the abridged versions of the children's literary classics.
