KALAM FOR PRESIDENT

Millions of Indians, I'm sure want Dr.Abdul Kalam to continue as our President.
How often do we get to see such a charismatic, down to earth, people-friendly and intelligent person in that post?
But, the reality is....the whole Presidential nominations and this whole issue has indeed become a joke, like how our dear "Amma" J.Jayalalitha put it.

When will the day come, when our beloved politicians would consider putting our country and its progress first(rather than their personal interests), before deciding on any issue??

Hmm..

He wants Indians to go to Mars. Using the tax payers money. Can the same money be not used to improve conditions in india? like linking the rivers, education, blah.?

@sleepyface.. Thats exactly what I meant.

If we can go to Mars, imagine the economic status of our country at that point in time.
Shouldn't we be proud of him who has a vision for our country?

No No!! economic status cannot be imagined! god!

I agree Dr Kalam has great visions and he does make us proud when he represents our country. I like the way he stood up and took his job as the president in the right spirit and put his foot down when he had to. But I still believe we need someone like T.N.Seshan there. A person who is more practical and can actually command. Dreams are good but we need people who work as the president. Dr Kalam as a person I salute, as a President I hv my own doubts.

@rafiki... i understand what u r trying to say. but at present, with the kind of choices we have..( TN Seshan isn't contesting, right?) i felt, the best option we have now is to let Kalam continue.

@sleepyface...
went through the links.
looks like being honest, simple, humble and modest is unpopular and made fun of.

I root for Kalam to be president. Honestly it doesnt matter who is the president. The president has no political power in the Indian administrative system. He is just a symbol. I would rather have a Scientist as a symbol than a corrupt politician. Not too many countries in the world can boast of a scientist as a president.
